BREATHE is a seven-part course for exploring spiritual awakening through non-dual inquiry. The letters describe themes of identification, understanding and recognition. This is a contemplative teaching sequence; the optional breathing practices support attention rather than promise an awakening outcome.
BREATHE is a seven-part exploration of identity, awareness, and everyday life. Follow Mara and her friend Leela as a change in work becomes an inquiry into who we are beneath our roles. James Traverse’s nondual teaching provides the framework; each chapter combines a story, a teaching metaphor, and a short reflection.

Bring the seven-part framework into your own inquiry with the BREATHE web app — Breath IS Bridge. Each part has its own colour, story, teaching metaphor, and reflection space. Use the breath pacer with INHALE, PAUSE, EXHALE, PAUSE, or simply notice natural breathing. Your reflections stay in your browser and can be exported.
Open the BREATHE app. You can also add it to your home screen using your browser’s Install app or Add to Home Screen option. After the first visit, the app’s teachings are available offline; website chapters and video links require an internet connection.
How to read the BREATHE Framework
Begin with B — Being Misidentified and follow the chapters in order for the full story. You can also return to whichever question speaks to your present experience. The stages organize the teaching; they are not a timetable or a test of spiritual progress.
Let the reflections be brief and unforced. When a chapter invites attention to breathing, allow the breath and its pauses to remain natural. Breath serves as a contemplative bridge to immediate experience; these correspondences do not mean that a breathing phase physically causes ignorance or enlightenment.
Breath as Bridge also invites the switchover from doing to being. Feel the turning from inhalation into exhalation as release, and from exhalation into inhalation as allowing the next breath to arise. Let these transitions remain natural as you witness how Being includes the movement of breathing, as well as the transition pauses. For the experiential connection with asana and attention following energy, read Feeling Space: the turning of the breath.

The seven chapters of the BREATHE Framework
- B — Being Misidentified: The Woman Who Knew Everything Except Herself
Explore how a useful role or personal description can be mistaken for the whole of who you are. Mara’s retirement opens the series with a question about being and identity. - R — Reality Misread: The Error That Arises Due to Ignorance
Separate an event from the interpretation and identity claim added to it. Mara’s response to a brief email introduces the rope-and-snake teaching. - E — Error Experienced: When a Story Becomes a Prison
Notice how a belief about your worth can begin to organize your life. Mara explores the cost of needing reassurance while making room for feelings and practical care. - A — Assimilating Knowledge: The Menu, the Meal, and the Hungry Seeker
Explore the difference between collecting teachings and understanding what they point to. Mara brings reading, questioning, and contemplation into her own experience. - T — Truth Recognized: The One Who Was Already Present
Distinguish recognition of your nature from a temporary spiritual experience. The tenth-traveller story and an ordinary moment of hearing invite inquiry into the one who searches. - H — Halting Identification: Taking Down the Invisible Painting
Notice when spiritual understanding becomes another identity to defend. Mara explores the difference between seeing an error and demanding that every familiar reaction disappear. - E — Enduring Freedom: The River Was Never Missing
Return to ordinary life with the series’ central question: must changing circumstances determine your essential worth? This final chapter presents freedom as recognition, rather than a permanent pleasant mood.
