A short, guided exploration of being, before the descriptions we add to it.
Begin with what is here
Sit comfortably for five or ten minutes, with your eyes open or closed. Let breathing find its own rhythm. Feel the support beneath you. There is no special state to produce.
Ask, and listen
Gently ask, “Who am I?” A name, a role, a memory or a description may appear. These answers have a useful place in life. Notice that each is known. Does any one description contain the whole of what you are?
Feel the simple fact of being
You may quietly say “I am,” without adding anything after it. Then let even those words rest. Before an explanation arrives, being is already evident. This is an invitation to Knowing via Being.
Welcome the response
A thought, a feeling, restlessness or quiet may come. Let it come; let it be; let it go. The inquiry includes thinking. You do not have to force a gap between thoughts or turn yourself into a detached observer.
Let the question become quiet
Ask once more, “What knows this present experience?” Listen without manufacturing an answer. If the question becomes a mental puzzle, feel your feet and hear the room. A few unhurried moments are enough.
Return to living
Look around, move your hands and continue with your day. Does being depend on repeating the words “I am”? Let the inquiry remain a gentle invitation rather than a test of spiritual achievement.
