Spiritual Awakening and Spiritual Awakening Yoga

James Traverse ~ Yoga Educator

Being Yoga with James Traverse is devoted to spiritual awakening and the recognition of our true nature. Rooted primarily in the non-dual teaching of Advaita Vedanta, and informed by Kashmir Shaivism, it offers an exploration of awakening in everyday life.

Spiritual Awakening Yoga brings this exploration into embodied experience. Meditation and Yoga Nidra serve as complementary practices supporting that exploration.

Spiritual Awakening: Recognizing Your True Nature

Spiritual awakening begins with a simple, profound inquiry: Who am I?

Much of life is lived through our sense of being a separate person—defined by our history, thoughts, relationships, and circumstances. Awakening invites us to look more deeply, to recognize the aware presence in which these experiences arise.

At Being Yoga, this exploration is rooted primarily in the non-dual tradition of Advaita Vedanta, with complementary insights from Kashmir Shaivism. These teachings invite direct inquiry into our true nature and the apparent separation between ourselves and life.

Understanding the teachings is a beginning. Their meaning becomes intimate through direct experience: in stillness and movement, in relationship, and in the ordinary moments of daily living. Even amid changing thoughts and feelings, there is an opportunity to recognize what is already present.

Spiritual Awakening Yoga is an embodied exploration of this understanding. Through the body, breath, and open attention, yoga offers a way to explore how separation is felt and how naturally experience unfolds when habitual grasping softens. Meditation and Yoga Nidra offer complementary support, creating space for stillness, inquiry, and recognition.

With James Traverse, Being Yoga invites you to explore these teachings in your own experience, at your own pace. You can begin exactly where you are—with curiosity and a willingness to look freshly at what you take yourself to be.
